Facts about Varsity Lakes

Varsity Lakes is one of the Gold Coast’s more popular suburbs and with fairly good reason. Varsity Lakes is home to Bond University and a number of companies have set up their office in the suburb, which means a great mix of life and work. With the Robina shopping centre close by, a number of restaurants and cafes, close to the highway and a short drive to the beach, Varsity Lakes offers almost everything you need.

The local school, Varsity College, caters for K-12 and is one of the best-performing schools in Queensland. There is a very strict catchment area policy, so you will need to live in the catchment area to be able to send your child there. Because the school caters for all ages, there are a few different catchment areas depending on the education year, and the secondary school area is larger than the primary.

There is a range of housing in the area from stand-alone houses to gated complexes. It may be easier to find rentals at differing times of the year depending on the university schedules. A four-bedroom house sells for an average of $522,000 and rents for an average of $500 per week; a three-bedroom unit can be picked up for an average of $360,000 or rent for an average of $420 per week. Varsity Lakes is a relatively high-demand area which can likely be attributed to the number of uni students wanting to live in the area.

Recent developments in the suburb include a new train station with the expansion of the Gold Coast train line. You can get into Brisbane in just over an hour, whereas a drive to the city will take a minimum of an hour and a half on a weekday (and on a good day) in peak hour traffic. It is the first/last station on the line which almost guarantees you a seat on the morning trip. There are also more apartment buildings in construction along the lake.

For those who enjoy sports on the water, the Sports House is home to sports such as paddling, sailing, rowing and canoeing and also includes a gym, yoga studio, martial arts and an after-school arts program. There are also walking tracks around the lake area.

Varsity Lakes is a great suburb for those who want to be able to work and live in the same area. It is a growing area and can be quite busy, but it also has all the facilities you need.
