Facts about Taringa
Taringa is one of Brisbane’s older suburbs. Situated approximately 5km from the city, it is an inner city living without the commercial element. Despite being so close to the city, there are few commercial business buildings in the area, leaving the area mostly residential.
Taringa is an area in very high demand – just over 3.3 times the average Queensland demand. Its location close to three Universities makes it very much a student-based area (almost 40% of the population identifies as independent youth). The pricing of the housing market reflects the demand in this area. The average house sale price is $745,000 while the average unit sale price is $403,000. The rental market is also high in demand, with the average house rental at $490 per week, while the average unit rental is $400 per week.
Being close to the city, there are a large number of things to do and places to check out, including the Mt Cootha Gardens and lookout. You can also participate in a ghost tour of the nearby Toowong Cemetery, which is the final resting place of a number of public figures. There are also a number of heritage-listed sites within the area to check out.
If you’re thinking of working or studying in the city, while living close by, you have the best transport from Taringa. The bus and train timetables are regular, there is access to the Rivercats and if you’re up to it, the Riverside Bike Track runs all the way from the University of Queensland in St Lucia through to the Queensland University of Technology at Gardens Point.
If you are looking to move to the area with children there are no schools in the Taringa suburb. The closest schools are located in Toowong and Indooroopilly with limited choices. For the kids for weekend and after-school activities, there are Scouts and Karate, as well as soccer within the Taringa area. For other sports, you will need to be prepared to travel to nearby suburbs.
Taringa is one of those places where you can combine the best of both worlds – suburban living with inner-city facilities.
When it’s time to relocate, our Brisbane-based professional movers and packers can turn it into a seamless process.
