Facts about Cleveland
Cleveland is a large bay-side suburb set in the Redlands Bay area. It encompasses the Raby Bay Marina and two small islands – Cassim Island and Sandy Island. Cleveland is almost the ultimate bay-side suburb with cafes, restaurants, footpaths and jetties, so it is no wonder people make the trip out to Cleveland to spend the day.
Cleveland has a mixture of being a sleepy bay-side suburb while still having more than enough to do. It could have all turned out differently however, had the tide been in rather than out in 1850 when the NSW Governor of the time, George Gipps stepped off his boat. Gipps found himself in waist-deep mud which meant, that instead of becoming a busy port town, Cleveland grew into the suburb it is now.
Cleveland remains a popular suburb, and at just under 30km from Brisbane’s CBD, demand has pushed property prices higher in recent years. A four-bedroom house has a median price of approximately $1,050,000 (2025), with rental prices around $750 per week. Units are also in demand, with a median price of approximately $620,000 and rental prices averaging around $550 per week. The suburb attracts a mix of residents, including families and retirees, with a significant proportion of the population aged 55 and over (2021 Census).
There is certainly a selection of schools if you are moving to Cleveland with school-aged children. With primary and secondary schools covering both state and private, as well as kindergarten and daycare facilities, you won’t be without choice when it comes to your children’s education. Similarly, with sports, there are a large number of options to choose from including martial arts, touch football, tennis, cricket, cycling and soccer to name a few.
You won’t need to travel too far to access everyday facilities. With a shopping centre in the suburb as well as a hospital and the general facilities you find in all major suburbs, you can be assured that you can find what you need daily.
Cleveland is a great suburb for those who want the relaxed bay-side lifestyle, while still being close enough to the CBD for an easy commute.
