Facts about Churchill
Churchill is a large suburb only minutes from the CBD of Ipswich (5km to the southwest). The suburb borders the Ipswich campus of the University of Queensland making it a great suburb for those either attending the University or looking for a well-priced investment property.
While a three-bedroom house will cost an average of $242,500 the median house price has dropped $11,500 over the past 5 years (or 4.3%) with the sales rate dropping just under 46%. Many properties in the area are quite old but most have been built on a decent size block giving you extra space in the backyard. The average rental price for a three-bedroom house is $270 per week.
There are a number of schooling options around Churchill. There is one primary school in the suburb, a high school just outside of the boundary of the suburb and the university is less than 4km away by car or foot. There is also a TAFE campus located at Bundamba, which is a 10km drive.
While being close to Ipswich, Churchill is less than 50km from Brisbane’s CBD still making it quite a viable option for a daily commute. With five train stations close by, commuting to Brisbane can be done without changing trains.
For those who love getting out and about on the weekend there is a large range of recreational facilities in surrounding suburbs including golf courses, a driving range, a bridge club and sports including netball, hockey, AFL, croquet, bowls, rugby league and tennis amongst many others. For other facilities, there is a large, and quite new, shopping centre nearby in North Ipswich. Other nearby facilities include a library, swimming pool, art gallery and a large number of parks.
While Ipswich and the surrounding suburbs don’t always have a great reputation, Churchill can be a great area to look at if you are working or studying in the area and your budget for housing is relatively low.
