One of the more interesting things about Chelmer is the Walter Taylor Bridge that connects the suburb with Indooroopilly across the river. It is a heritage listed suspension bridge shared by vehicles and pedestrians. It was once inhabited with a small number of apartments in the pylons of the bridge; a ballroom was also discovered in one pylon. Until 2010, the residents were some of the last members of the original toll masters family. Construction was started in 1930, with the bridge finallyopened in 1936. Today, the local council run guided tours of the bridge and its facilities.
Chelmer is a great riverside suburb, and despite two main roads running through the area, it is a relatively quiet and peaceful suburb.
