Carbrook

Carbrook is a suburb of the Logan City Council area which borders the Logan River and the Redland Shire. Its history lies with the German settlers who moved from nearby Bethania in 1867. The suburb was originally named Gramzow after a village in Prussia where the immigrants came from. A church was built in the same year on what was known as German Church Road. Today, a cemetery on the site, Cornubia Lutheran Cemetery, is all that remains of this community building.

The name of the suburb was changed from Gramzow to Carbrook during World War I due to the anti-German sentiment across the state, with the local post office being taken off the German postmaster and given to a resident of non-German descent.

Carbrook’s first industry was cotton followed by sugar cane. From there, farmers in the area diversified to arrowroot, bananas, pineapples, grapes, citrus and tobacco. Other industries included a blacksmith and sawmill.

Today Carbrook is still a rural area with many houses based on relatively decent size blocks of land. House prices in the area reflect the rural setting as well as the cost of living along the Logan River or backing onto the Wetlands and Conservation Park. With an average sale price for a house sitting at $741,500, Carbrook is in a relatively high-demand area with a good supply of properties on the market.

At just 40km to Brisbane and 50km to the Gold Coast, Carbrook is well-placed for anyone looking to commute to either area. For those with children, there are three schools in the area; one state primary school, a private K-12 school, and an “alternative” school where students are graded on their academic level rather than what grade they should be in.

There are a number of facilities available in the suburb and in surrounding suburbs including libraries, pools (with learn-to-swim facilities), art galleries, museums, sporting groups and parks.

Carbrook is perfect for those looking for their “forever” home – somewhere where they can’t imagine ever moving from.

If you require help with your move, our team of experienced removalists and packers is here to assist you.
