Facts about Caloundra West
Laying west of one of the main roads through Caloundra and taking in the airport as well as some industrial area is Caloundra West. This area features a mixture of housing with a number of new homes in the area, and is also more of a family area than Caloundra, with close to 55% of the population made up of families of all ages.
For those with school age children, there is one school in the suburb so you may need to look at the surrounding suburbs of Caloundra, Currimundi, Pelican Waters and Golden Beach for other school options. For those who commute to Brisbane each day, you will find a fair amount of traffic in peak hour, however in non-peak hour it should only take just over an hour to get to the city. There is some train services to the city from nearby Landsborough and bus services throughout the Sunshine Coast area.
There is a new residential development being built in Caloundra West that will see housing, child care centres, shopping, dining, parks, bike and walking trails and a fitness circuit being built, as well as new bus stops going directly to Caloundra. The Caloundra Airport does take up a fairly large amount of the suburb, but being only 10 minutes from the beaches of Caloundra, and less than half an hour from the start of the Sunshine Coast Hinterland, there is more than enough areas to spend weekends and holidays.
The Caloundra Airport is also home to the Queensland Air Museum whose mission is to collect and preserve all aspects of Queensland and Australian aviation history. It currently has one of the largest collections of historical aircraft in Queensland, as well as a large collection of aircraft engines, equipment, photos and books.
If you’re looking to move to the Sunshine Coast, and want to be close to the beach but away from all the tourist activity, Caloundra West may be more your style.
