Facts about Calamvale

Calamvale is a suburb on the southern side of Brisbane, located 20km south of the city, and only a short drive from both the Gateway Motorway and the Logan Motorway. It is one of the most populated Brisbane suburbs and is also a fairly multicultural suburb with residents coming from Australia, China, New Zealand, Taiwan, India and Hong Kong. The suburb was originally named after James Calam who was one of the first landowners and settlers.

Property prices are fairly average for a suburb this close to the city; you can expect an average purchase price of $531,000 for a four-bedroom house and an average purchase price of $347,000 for a three-bedroom unit. If you are looking to rent, you should expect average rental prices of $460 per week for a four-bedroom house and $380 per week for a three-bedroom unit.

Despite being one of Brisbane’s most populated suburbs, there are very few schools in the suburb – Calamvale Community College and Stretton State College. There is also the Calamvale Special School and two childcare centres. With such a small selection you may find yourself looking in nearby suburbs of Kuraby, Algester, Sunnybank and Runcorn for schools.

For those commuting into the city each day, Calamvale isn’t serviced by a train station however there are two stations in nearby suburbs of Kuraby and Algester. There are also a large number of bus services in the area which run to the city at regular intervals.

There is a large range of facilities in the area including a shopping centre and medical facilities. There is also a library in nearby suburbs, swimming pools and parks with walking tracks, playgrounds, BBQ facilities and off-leash dog walking areas.

If you enjoy living in a multicultural area and want a choice of both old and new housing options, Calamvale may be worth checking out.
