Facts about Birnam

Not to be confused with the other Queensland locality of the same name located further north, Birnam is a small rural locality situated about 10 minutes north of Beaudesert and approximately 10 minutes to Tamborine (not to be confused with Tamborine Mountain). Birnam falls within the Scenic Rim Regional Council area.

According to the 2021 Census, Birnam had a population of 349. Property does not become available often in this tightly held rural market. Based on 2025 data, the median house price in Birnam is approximately $920,000, reflecting the value of larger rural and acreage properties. Sales volumes remain low year to year due to limited stock.

With the Albert River running along the border of the locality and Flagstone Creek flowing through the centre, there is some potential for flooding in low-lying areas. The Albert River system extends from Lamington National Park through Logan and into Moreton Bay, with the broader catchment spanning significant distances across south-east Queensland. Land use along the river area includes grazing, cropping and rural residential properties. Flood mapping is available through Scenic Rim Regional Council.

For families with school-aged children, education options are located in nearby Beaudesert. These include two state primary schools and one private primary school, along with Beaudesert State High School. There are also childcare centres in Beaudesert, and the TAFE Queensland Beaudesert campus that serves the area.

Located around 30 minutes away, Wyaralong Dam forms part of Mount Joyce Recreation Park and offers paddle sports, fishing, camping, mountain biking, horse riding trails and picnic areas.

Residents within the Scenic Rim Regional Council area have access to community initiatives such as free native tree programs, swimming pools, galleries and a range of walking, cycling and horse-riding trails throughout the region.
