Facts about Clontarf

Clontarf is a bay-side suburb on the southern end of the Redcliffe Peninsula. Clontarf lies on the northern end of the Houghton Highway where a bridge connects the Moreton Shire region with the Brisbane City region over Bramble Bay. The original bridge, the Hornibrook Bridge, was replaced in recent years with the new Ted Smout Memorial Bridge.

Clontarf is a mixture of residential and light industrial which brings a fair amount of work to the area. A large number of residents work in the Brisbane area, and with direct access to the Gateway Motorway via the Houghton Highway, access to the city is relatively easy. For those with children, there is a small selection of schools in the suburb itself, while there are more to choose from in the surrounding suburbs covering all levels and types of schools.

Clontarf has a lot of older properties with a few new ones thrown in, especially in the unit market. For an area that is so close to the water and only 30km to Brisbane’s CBD, housing prices in the suburb are quite affordable. House prices have increased slightly over the past five years with a four-bedroom house now costing an average of $410,000 or an average rental cost of $420 per week. A three-bedroom unit has an average cost of $532,500 or an average rental cost of $340 per week.

Clontarf and its surroundings are a great place to bring the family for a day out. There are cafes, restaurants, parks, walking tracks and fishing spots. The area is also open enough to fly a kite and on the 2nd and 4th Sunday of every month, the Redcliffe Kite Club is out in force bringing colour to the skies of the peninsula. Clontarf also plays host to the annual Kitefest, a festival of food, arts, crafts, markets, kite displays, entertainment, kite-making workshops and aerobatic displays.

Clontarf is a relatively quiet bay-side suburb and is perfect if you love living by the water and being close to work.
