Calvert is a small township just west of Rosewood and part of the Ipswich City Council. While it is a small area, there is some interesting history in the area – a forest red gum tree which has been aged at approximately 463 years old making it the oldest tree in the Ipswich Council area and the second largest forest red gum in Australia.
There have only been a handful of properties sold in the suburb in the past year, with a number currently on the market; from the properties currently on the market, the average listing price is $518,000. The area is popular with families who make up a large percentage of the population in the area. While there are no schools in the area, there are a number in the nearby suburbs of Grandchester, Rosewood and Laidley.
Calvert is a great suburb if you want to live in a more rural setting while still being close to major towns. It is a 30km drive to Ipswich, 70km to Brisbane and 75km to Toowoomba – all within a relatively easy commute either via train or personal car. While there isn’t a lot in Calvert itself, there is more than enough to discover around the area including Lake Dyer Caravan and Camping Park, Willowbank Raceway, Geiger Lagoon, model steam trains at nearby Grandchester and the Rosewood Railway Museum.
There is a fair amount of development happening around the Ipswich area and with the population around the city growing rapidly, there are a number of industrial areas planned for the city which will offer a large amount of employment opportunities in years to come.
