This Sunshine Coast hinterland town is situated 30 minutes west of Noosa on the northern end of the Sunshine Coast. The history of the town stretches back to at least 1913, which is when the Black Mountain Primary School was opened (it closed in 1961). While there are now around 1,200 people living in the suburb, the 1921 census showed only 33 people living in the town.
Property prices in Black Mountain average $513,000 for a four-bedroom house. The overall house pricing average is $499,000. Many of the houses in the town are relatively new, with some older properties reaching back to the 1940’s and 1950’s. For those with school-age children, you will need to travel outside of the town for both primary and secondary school options.
Black Mountain is part of the Noosa Shire Council region and is largely made up of rural properties, hobby farms and acreages. You will find many people in the area who love to care for the land and partake in sustainable living practices.
The closest town centre to Black Mountain is Cooroy, which is around a 10-minute drive away, where you will find a supermarket plus other speciality shops. There are also a number of sporting associations based in Cooroy covering cricket, swimming, tennis, soccer and golf amongst others. There is also an RSL in the town as well as a small selection of cafes. For those with creative minds, there is a writing group, and a woodworkers club based in Cooroy as well.
If you feel like a day out fishing, but don’t want to visit the more populated coastal areas, Lake Macdonald is only a short drive away, where you can fish for Bass and Spangled Perch amongst other species. You will need a permit to fish in Lake Macdonald.
