With many parts of the suburb bordered by the Logan River, Bethania is 50 minutes north of the Gold Coast and 30 minutes south of Brisbane. First settled in 1863 by German immigrants, Bethania was initially home to 22 families who formed a strong agricultural base, living on allotments ranging from five to 40 acres. By 1886 there was a school, church, graveyard, blacksmith, brick kiln and other tradespeople.
