Just south of Tweed Heads lies the coastal suburb of Chinderah. With the northern part of the suburb running alongside the Tweed River, and the Pacific Highway splitting the suburb, Chinderah is a great place to call home for those who want coastal living, while still being close enough to a major road for an easy commute.

Chinderah is a relatively high demand market where properties don’t become available too often. With only six properties sold in the past year, the average purchase price is $222,500. Chinderah has a range of housing types from quite new houses through to retirement villages and caravan park permanent sites. The average property price can often change depending on the type of properties that are sold in a year.

Chinderah is just 10km from Tweed Heads and 25km from the business areas of Robina and Varsity Lakes in Queensland. For those with children, there are no schools in the suburb, but there are a small number of primary and secondary schools in nearby suburbs covering both state and private options. There is also a TAFE campus 5km away in Kingscliff and a Southern Cross University campus 13km to the north in Coolangatta. For those looking for recreation options other than the beaches, there is a golf course in the northern end of the suburb and a surf club, soccer club, karate studio and bowling club in nearby suburbs.

The Tweed area has a fair amount of history behind it. Up to 20 million years ago the area was a shield volcano that stretched from Byron Bay in NSW through to Nerang in QLD and out into the ocean. Over the years the volcano became extinct and rain washed away any trace of lava. Today, Mt Warning or Wollumbin (40km to the south west) is all that is left standing of the volcano (as it’s plug). After an agricultural history of corn, arrowroot, opium and sugar, today the area is primarily used for growing sugar and bananas.

Chinderah is a great little coastal suburb for those who love the coastal lifestyle. With housing prices relatively low, it may also be a great suburb to break into the property market.
