The east side of the city contains many historic buildings as well as Westfield which contains both Myer and David Jones, an Events Cinema and 335 Retail Outlets as well as a food court and several restaurants. The west side of town is Hornsby Park which houses the Hornsby Aquatic Centre and the Hornsby TAFE. At the south end of town is a large war memorial. Industry and the Cityrail Railway workshop can be found at the north western side of town.

Many of the residential areas on the western side of the suburb enjoy a close proximity to Regional and National Parks as well as the Lisgar Gardens, all of which provide great walking tracks and picnic areas.
