It’s almost as simple as a hop, skip and a jump to get the 4.5km from Maylands to Perth’s CBD. Located on the train line there are lots of public transport options, as well as the walk or cycle along the Swan River to work.

Developed in the late 1800’s the suburb was once a source of clay for making bricks and tiles. The clay pits are now part of the local golf course and residential area. The rail line was originally built in the 1880’s and had an extensive upgrade in 2000. The suburb was also the home of Perth’s main airport until the 1960’s.

Charles Kingsford-Smith landed at Maylands Airport, completing the first non-stop flight across Australia. Throughout World War II, the airport was taken over by the RAAF and used by the United States Army for refuelling and aircraft movement purposes. Between 1942 and 1943 Avro Ansons was based at Maylands to transport supplies and passengers to allied units throughout the state.

Aside from its extensive history, Maylands has a lot of educational and recreational facilities. It is home to the Maylands Waterland – a water park with four pools, a small yacht club, a number of schools and ample sporting and recreational areas.

Housing is fairly affordable in Maylands. A three bedroom house averages $628,000 or $520 per week for a rental. A two bedroom unit averages $348,000 or $370 per week for a rental.

With a 15 minute drive to the airport, Maylands is a family and commuter dream.
