Located in the heart of the Swan Valley wine region and on the doorstep of Perth Hills is the suburb of Midland. It is situated at the intersection of Great Eastern Highway and Great Northern Highway and is approximately just a 30 minute drive east of Perth, Western Australia. The suburb owes its existence to the building of a railway from Perth in 1886 and the establishment of the State’s railway workshops at the turn of the 20th century.
Midland is bounded by Middle Swan Road and the Roe Highway in the north, Morrison Road, Bushby Street, the Great Eastern Highway, Ruby Street, the railway line and the Shire of Mundaring in the east, Scott Street, Frederic Street, the Shire of Mundaring, the Roe Highway and the Helena River in the south, and the railway line, the locality of Guildford and the Swan River in the west.
With Perth International Airport just being a few kilometres away and domestic airports only a short distance away, Midland is part of a thriving tourism industry.
The Midland shopping area is one of the premier shopping areas in Perth, having a complete spectrum of retailers and bulk goods retailers. Midland has two main shopping centres, one of which is Midland Gate which features around 186 stores including an 8-screen cinema (Ace Cinema). There is also Centrepoint, a one stop shopping destination showcasing 40 stores including BWS, Woolworths, Ha’ Premium Grocer, Red Dot as well as Centrepoint Barbers, Pharmacy 777 and many more. If that isn’t enough, a variety of small to large commercial and industrial businesses are available along and around the Great Eastern Highway.
The revitalisation of Midland is strengthening its role as a strategic metropolitan centre bringing widespread economic, social and environmental benefits to the region. The on-going redevelopment of the town centre by the Midland Redevelopment Authority (MRA) will include more housing and apartments, cafes/restaurants, retail shops, bulky goods shopping centre and the State’s largest police complex. In addition, the Swan Health Campus, a 326–bed general hospital, will be built in the MRA area, with construction scheduled for the next decade.
Midland also has complete set of amenities, from modern medical centres to day care facilities, public and private schools, with the prestigious Guildford Grammar School only minutes away. Furthermore, La Salle College is a co-ed school and caters for students from year 8 – 12 while Governor Stirling Senior High School offers students special programs in sport, music language programs and other vocational areas. Plus, the suburb also houses a TAFE Campus and Corridors College.
There is a huge array of entertainment, dining and recreational facilities available in this suburb. With over 60 restaurants to choose from, you’ll be able to satisfy your cravings. Cafe Mueller Midland serves traditional home style German food in a 100 year old cottage, Zaika Indian Restaurant serves Indian food and a wide choice of Chinese, Thai, and Italian restaurants, cafes and takeaway outlets are found along the Great Eastern Highway. Swan Hills Swimming Club is a large club and the clubroom is located in a newly renovated aquatic centre. There are also large playing fields, golf courses and a BMX track. The thriving Farmer’s Market, located behind the Town Hall is open at 7am on Sunday and sells fresh produce, arts and crafts, as well as providing regular entertainment for tourists and visitors.
Ideally placed to enjoy the benefits of its location, Midland could possibly be your next home.
