Removalists Happy Valley

With a name like Happy Valley, who wouldn’t want to live here? Although only 20kms from Adelaide’s CBD, this suburb retains a semi-rural lifestyle by its numerous green areas and the Happy Valley Reservoir laying almost right in the middle of the suburb.

House prices are quite affordable in Happy Valley. A four bedroom house can be brought for an average of $413,000 or rented for an average of $400 per week. Houses are a mixture of new and old with units and townhouses extremely hard to come by. Demand is high in the suburb and over 57% of the population is made up by families. The suburb contains a primary school, with a high school in the next suburb over.

With several walking tracks, parks and play areas, you certainly won’t be without places to let the family burn off some energy. There is also a swimming centre and the suburb backs onto a golf club and regional parkland. Other recreational facilities include tennis courts, BMX tracks, cricket pitches, lawn bowls, and softball and football grounds.

For commuters, it is approximately 70 minutes into the CBD via public transport, or around 45 minutes drive time. Hallet Cove Shopping Centre is a 10km drive away, and Brighton beach is approximately a 12km drive. For a night out or a weekend away, it is less than a half hour drive to the McLaren Vale wine region and restaurants.

The suburbs roots lay in wheat and wine grape growing stretching back to the mid 1800’s. The construction of the Happy Valley Reservoir flooded many of these farms, as well as the local school and cemetery, requiring a lot of the town to move some 4km east. The reservoir was drained for reconstruction works between 2002 and 2004. Upon draining, the old buildings were exposed for the first time since building, but unfortunately for archaeologists and locals, nothing of interest was found.
