Flagstaff Hill

Flagstaff Hill is a sprawling, green leafy suburb set in the foothills south of Adelaide, South Australia. Falling under the jurisdiction of the local government of the City of Onkaparinga, it is approximately 14 kms from the central business district. Surrounding suburbs include Darlington, Coromandel Valley, Bellevue Heights, Craigburn Farm, and Bedford Park.

Named after the hill by that same name, Flagstaff Hill is established around the Sturt Gorge Recreation Park, where several parks and reserves are maintained. The Sturt Gorge Recreation Park, a 244 hectares of densely vegetated hill slopes and open space, can be accessed via Bonneyview Road. This trail is wonderful for bushwalking and for children exploring in general and offers scenic views as well a sense of remoteness and solitude.

The Hub (Aberfoyle Park), a large shopping centre, makes shopping in the suburb very handy. The suburb also has the Flagstaff Hill Shopping Centre which has facilities such as the Baker’s Pantry bakery, a post office, deli, Flagstaff Hill Chicken & Seafood fish and chippery, hairdresser, Chemmart Pharmacy, Hills Daisies gift store/florist, IMVS pathology, Superior Meats butcher, real estate offices, Cellarbrations bottle-shop and Foodland supermarket. And with just a few minutes’ drive, you can also shop at the Westfield Marion, the largest shopping complex in Adelaide which contains nearly 327 stores including David Jones, Myer, Target, Big W, Woolworths, Kmart and Event Cinemas.

Right opposite the shopping centre is the Flagstaff Hill Medical Centre, which provides comprehensive family and primary health care including preventative medicine and management of chronic illness. You will also find dentist, physiotherapist, pathology massage and podiatrist available within the suburb. A larger choice of other allied health is in close proximity including Flinders Medical Centre, a 580 bed public teaching hospital and medical school, and is co-located with Flinders University.

Located on the Memford way, is the Flagstaff Hill Golf Club, a course situated in a picturesque area of subtle hills, studded with old gums, following 2 natural creeks and featuring a man-made water storage area known to the locals as Loch Hillan. It is a popular venue for business seminars, entertainment shows, conferences and training sessions.

Choices of primary schools are within walking distance and high schools are just a short bus ride away including Craigburn Primary and Aberfoyle Park High. It will only take a short drive to get to Adelaide Hills and good beaches are also about a 10 minute drive away.

The buses run from Aberfoyle Park and through Flagstaff Hill and there is a train service from Coromandel Valley which is about a 10 minute drive away. Be prepared to experience local wildlife in the streets of Flagstaff Hill with occasional encounter with koalas, native ducks & kookaburras, plus the usual magpies!
